Join us for a sun-blessed, nurturing week of yoga, meditation, sightseeing, swimming and nutritious food at Le Jardin Des Douars, a pocket of paradise just outside the ancient seaside town of Essaouira.
Situated on the north coast of Africa, the blue and white Medina is a wonderful place to escape the UK winter and energise your soul and senses; Arabic and French language fills the air along with spices and perfumes, souks are filled with treasures like jewellery, bags, art and lamps and the wide, sandy beach and crashing Atlantic surf are mesmerising.
Boutique hotel Le Jardins Des Douars is an oasis amid the desert landscape 15 minutes outside the Medina. Walking through the pink bougainvillea-framed entrance is a bit like stepping into a dream where things appear more vivid than usual – dragon flies flit around the flower-filled gardens, archways lead to secret corners and secluded roof terraces and everything is enveloped in sunshine and serenity.
Our group will be spread between two of the hotel’s picturesque pink-hued villas, Jasmin and Saada, each of which comes with private heated swimming pool, well-kept garden, dining area, lounge and ensuite bedrooms decorated with exquisite Moroccan art work, furniture and textiles.
We’ll have use of the main hotel, just steps away from our villas, including a small spa with a traditional Moroccan hammam, bar, restaurant, two heated swimming pools and four acres of gardens to relax in.
Days will begin with a creative, uplifting Vinyasa Flow or Dharma Yoga class with award winning teacher, Heidi Pascual or a more gentle rooftop meditation session. Yoga is followed by a delicious in-villa Moroccan breakfast and plenty of free time to relax by the pool, indulge in a spa treatment or activity and explore the local area, before regrouping back at the main villa for Slow Flow to Yin sunset session.
In the evening, communal candle-lit dinners in Villa Saada will be created for us by a private chef on four nights, including delicious vegetarian options. We’ll also eat out on three nights, taking advantage of the exciting culinary options on our doorstep including Le Jardin Des Douars’ atmospheric restaurant and some of Essaouira’s excellent eateries, such as Taros with its terraces, sea views and mouth-watering tajines.
Midway through the break Dr Leanne Hepburn, head of Marine Biology at Essex University, will lead a group tour around Essaouira’s fascinating port, where fishermen haul their catch of the day from bright blue boats to serve the seafood shacks lining the walls, where you can dine on delicious just-caught fish dishes.
There’ll also be the chance to try some creative writing in the villa grounds, with a focus on immersing yourself in nature to allow your creativity to flow during three sessions led by travel journalist Amanda Statham.
An uplifting week away with great company, delicious cuisine, sunshine, yoga, sightseeing, writing, spa treatments, meditation and adventure – we can’t wait to share it with you!
