Diwali Light Yoga Retreat
West Lexham Barn, Norfolk
4 – 7 November 2018
Our autumn yoga retreat took place at a luxury 19th century converted barn, located in the heart of north Norfolk countryside; the stunning beaches of Holkham and Wells-Next-to-the-Sea nearby.
West Lexham is set in 21 acres of rolling lawns, landscaped gardens, wild flowers, woodland glades, rivers, lakes and picturesque countryside walks.
Our yoga classes took place in the spacious Harvest Room with its original ceiling and organic, antique charm. There are two full height windows on either side allowing natural light and views of the gardens to enhance and inspire our sadhana.
On waking up in this stunning, natural location, yogis experienced creative, uplifting Vinyasa Flow Yoga. Moving through beautiful sequencing and creative namaskars, we explored the Devi Lakshmi, Saraswati and Durga in celebration of Diwali, the Indian Festival of Lights. This ancient Indian festival celebrates the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance, hope over despair. In the afternoons, we surrendered to a more restorative, soma, yin practice, allowing yogis to rest, renew and rejuvenate.
Our food was lovingly prepared by The Nourish. April Rose Moodie created colourful, delicious, delectable vegan cuisine; our yogis were wholesomely nourished by her home-made, heavenly dishes.
On Saturday, our yoga classes were serenaded with soulful sounds of the harp and guitar, played live by Rafael Angulo and Lucidia Omamori. In the evening, this talented duo performed their soulful songs and sweet harmonies for our musical retreat experience.
Yoga kula and friendships were formed and we had a truly magical time together!
What a wonderful weekend where we had a perfect balance of yoga classes and free time to connect, explore the local area or ‘just be’ in the beautiful yoga retreat at West Lexham.
