Shiva Shakti Yoga, Mantra and Music Retreat

42 Acres, Somerset
August 2019

Our Lotus Love summer retreat took place at 42 Acres in Somerset. Seven hundred acres of ancient forest encircle this beautiful, historic Victorian house, set in outstanding, quintessential natural beauty. Through centuries, 42 acres has evolved into this exquisite retreat space.

The living spaces are filled with stylish furnishings and traditional features, creating a luxurious, yet homely ambiance. The large windows fill the space with natural light, offering beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and woodland.

The beautiful bedrooms combine Victorian charm with contemporary innovations. The bedrooms and bathrooms have all been finished with loving care, attention to detail and the highest quality.

On waking up in this stunning location, we shared a blissful sunrise sadhana in the Yoga Yurt. The spacious yurt has wooden floors, a traditional wood burning stove and is surrounded by green fields and ancient forest. Moving through beautiful sequencing and creative namaskars, we explored Shiva ~ Shakti inspired Elemental Vinyasa. In the afternoons, we surrendered to a more restorative, yin practice; meditation, sound bath and yoga nidra, allowing every-body-being to rest, renew and restore.

We shared a delicious diversity of colourful, flavourful, healthy food. All ingredients are locally sourced, organic and wild, often foraged from the land. 42 Acres believe in the regenerative benefits of food, prepared with care and shared with compassion.

In our free time, yogis walked in the beautiful countryside and woodland, relaxed with friends in the stunning spaces in our Victorian home or indulged in a luxurious massage. Some visited the sacred Celtic pilgrimage site of Glastonbury Tor, the heart chakra of the world.

On Saturday afternoon, we experienced an authentic live performance of Indian mantra, mudra and kirtan by Antarma and Aloka. This talented couple shared ancient Sanskrit shlokas and original lyrics, accompanied by the guitar, harmonium and drums.

Yoga friendships and community were formed and we had a truly magical time together!

I just wanted to take the time to share my appreciation for the time we spent together this past weekend. When I arrived at the retreat on Thursday and sat down with everyone I was so excited and grateful for the opportunity to spend a weekend doing yoga in a beautiful setting. However, when the retreat came to an end on Sunday afternoon I felt an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for every person I encountered, and interacted with, throughout my four days at 42 Acres. Thank you Heidi, and to each and every one of you who shared your loving, caring, kind, joyful, unique, authentic self.

Heidi’s passion for life and yoga is contagious. She puts so much thought, care and love into every class she teaches. Heidi makes everyone who attends feel welcome and accepted. With her extensive knowledge and skills, patience and supportive words, Heidi challenges your body and mind. When her class comes to an end, I feel my body has received a work out and my mind is clearer and more at ease. I leave Heidi’s classes feeling inspired and looking forward to the next session. I absolutely recommend attending one of Heidi’s retreats!
