Vinyasa Flow Yoga
Vinyasa Flow Yoga is a series of creative namaskars, lovingly sequenced and choreographed to music. Classical asana is guided by the rhythm of the breath, creating a tandava, a graceful dance of breath and movement. I design each class with a balance of alignment, yoga assists, form and flow; pranayama, yoga philosophy and meditation. We expand with energy through the body, gently returning to an inner space of stillness and serenity. My classes are uniquely themed, inspired by nature, ancient Indian philosophy and classical yoga texts.
Dharma Yoga
Dharma Yoga was created by Sri Dharma Mittra in New York City in 1975. Dharma Mittra shares fifty years of dedicated, devotional sadhana and is described as ‘a living guru and a true yogi’. He was an aspiring sadhaka to Swami Kailashananda, Yogi Gupta.
Dharma Yoga is a classical, yet contemporary expression of Hatha-Raja Yoga, deeply rooted in Indian philosophy, yoga tradition and ahimsa, universal compassion. This graceful, soulful sadhana integrates elements of dynamic Vinyasa and Hatha Yoga, incorporating beautiful back bends, light inversions and arms balances. Pranayama (breath awareness), dharana (concentration), dhyana (meditation) and yoga nidra (healing relaxation) are integral aspects of this practice. Dharma Yoga is a dynamic sadhana that cultivates radiant health, a peaceful mind, a compassionate heart and a sattvic santosha soul.
Yin to Bliss
For thousands of years, Taoism has taught the essential source essence of all life is wu chi. This is synonymous with the Sanskrit term prana, ki in Japanese or lung in Tibetan. These ancient wisdom traditions discovered that chi flows through the body in an intricate network of energetic pathways called meridians. In opening these channels we increase the flow of chi that nourishes deep connective tissue and organs; amplifies our energy and enhances healthy body-being balance.
Yin yoga is vital way of enlivening, replenishing and restoring healthy chi in the body, mind, heart and spirit. Yin yoga shapes are a sequence of held, passive postures that elicit the body’s natural repair response, enhancing stable strength and smooth mobility. The meridian pathways are clarified for healthy chi to flow throughout the bones, ligaments, tissues and visceral organs. We enrich the quality of chi by slowing down, becoming present and surrendering to the experience.
Taoist and wisdom traditions believe that we also absorb chi through the air that we breathe. Yin yoga practices include shamata, mindful breath awareness, pranayama and mediation. Yin yoga encourages a receptive, introspective practice of Self-inquiry so that yin postures support and balance unique physical and energetic needs. Yin yoga replenishes, rejuvenates and enlivens on your journey of personal freedom and self discovery.
