Love to Flow Yoga Retreat

Kefalonia, Greece
24 – 30 September 2022

This exquisite Grecian yoga retreat took place at Vericoco on the idyllic island of Kefalonia. This paradise of pristine white sand beaches lapped by the crystal-clear Ionian Sea is one of the most beautiful Greek Islands.

Vericoco is an oasis of calm amid olive groves with views of mighty Mount Aenos and a short stroll from the soft sand of Spartia Beach. Its large, lush grounds are centred around a pink-terracotta villa, dotted with fruit tree groves, fuchsia flowers and a serene turquoise pool – perfect for diving into after a day spent practising yoga, immersing in nature, exploring the surrounding forests, caves and beaches.

Vericoco accommodation varies from villa suites to beach houses that are dotted around the grounds, each with a combination of double and twin bedrooms and views of the surrounding gardens, forest and sea. Natural Decor’s in keeping with the retreat’s calm vibe, think terracotta walls, white cotton linen and the occasional splash of colour through exquisite art, cushions and and wall-hangings.

On waking in this stunning location, we shared a blissful sunrise sadhana on the Poolside Yoga Shala overlooking the Ionian Sea. Moving through beautiful sequencing and creative namaskars, we’ll explore Elemental Vinyasa Flow and inspired Dharma Yoga. These soulful practices created a sense of lightness and radiance, leaving our yogis feeling lovingly uplifted and alive. On some afternoons, we we surrendered to a restorative Yin Yoga practice in the Olive Grove Shala for rest, renewal and rejuvenation.

Meals were a treat of home-cooked Mediterranean and Greek fare created using local, organic produce and vegetables fresh from the estate’s garden. At night, we gathered around the long alfresco tables beside the outside kitchen and socialise beneath the stars, sharing a glass of Vericoco’s very own wine.

Yogis experienced a Sunset Snorkelling trip on a traditional Greek fishing boat with Leanne Hepburn, marine biologist; exploring the natural wonders of the Ionian Sea, home to rare turtles and dolphins.

When we weren’t practising yoga or exploring the big blue, yogis explored their creative side on Nature Writing workshops with Amanda Statham, travel writer; cultivating connection, presence and Self-expression. Yogis also shared other island activities, including Greek cookery classes, olive press tour and an authentic wine tasting evening. Some indulged in a luxurious massage; others spent time on the white sands of Spartia beach, gazing out to the crystalline sea; others took time to read a book in a hammock all afternoon.

We were blessed to retreat together in the beauty of nature, yoga and friendship in this pastel pink-blue Grecian Paradise!
